I'm still here

I am thinking there might be one or two people out there who are wondering where the heck I have been. I'm still here. Still homeschooling. And OH I have been busy.

The new school year has started and we are working on old favorites like Math, Reading, Language, Fine Motor Skills, Social Studies, etc. I think I will try to come back tomorrow and show you some things we've been doing. The little guy's schedule has been jam-packed with ABA, school work, a play-language study at the local university, therapeutic horse back riding, and starting tomorrow, the jr. swim club for Special Olympics. And of course, playdates.

Big news around here is that I am gearing up for a great Christmas party for our Nashville Special Needs Kids Playgroup. Writing fundraising letters to potential sponsors, finding vendors, and basically panicking that I've got less than three short months to get it all together.

Back in 2009 I read about the most incredible non-profit in Canada -- it's called Jake's House, an Autism organization delivering a ‘whole family’ approach with support, information, and events. One of the great things they do is put on a big holiday party every year, and after reading about those parties that has been my goal since I started our Playgroup in 2010. Whenever I wonder if I'm doing the right thing devoting all this time and energy to our events and the planning of this year's holiday party, all I have to do is go back and read this article and think about our own group's families and know, yep, it's all worth it. And maybe one day our parties will be as big a success as Jake's House throws.

If you are lucky enough to live in the Toronto area and can attend the annual party at Jake's House please take some pictures and let me know how it went. I bet you and your family will have the time of your life.

HO HO HO.
